Chiropractic helps with what?!

I’m in love with healing. I love experiencing the effects of Chiropractic and Craniosacral Therapy with my patients.I love that visit when people come in walking straighter, their faces more relaxed, a smile on their face. It completely makes my day.

I love holistic healing, because it focuses on giving the body what it needs to balance out and heal itself. Our bodies have the this astounding ability to do exactly what it needs to do to bring us back into a state of health. We’ve all experienced this healing when we’re sick. When the bad bugs make their way into our bodies, our immune systems go into overdrive by increasing temperature, revving up the inflammatory cascade, and the sneezing and coughing. All of this is designed to either get the offending organism out of the body or to kill it. It’s pretty impressive when you stop and think about it.

In my practice, I see people with pain, inflammation, swelling, numbness, stomach problems, headaches, and a multitude of other disorders. With any of these, we can boil it down to one common factor: imbalance in the body. Imbalance leads to dis-ease and then to disease. Finding the source of that original imbalance is always our primary goal in healing.

As a Chiropractor and Craniosacral Therapy practitioner, I first go to the spine. The spinal cord is the first embryonic development, which leads one to believe that this is the primary life force. The spinal cord and nervous system brings function to every other cell in the body. When this system is free and clear from impingement, it allows for constant communication and healing within the body. As the nerves exiting the spine incur more and more pressure along their pathways, the communication signals are reduced to and from the body and brain. This pressure can result from mental and emotional stresses, physical stress such as tight muscles or injuries, or chemical from toxins in our food and environments.

Each person that comes in, I start with aligning their spines and correcting any imbalances I find in their nervous systems, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and the nerves. I find that, once that balance is achieved, the bodies can start ‘talking’ to itself again so it knows where and how to help itself. Too often, I find that people take pain-relieving drugs, muscle relaxers, anti-anxiety or sleeping pills, when, more often than not, their nervous systems are really just too tightly wound. It’s like a tightly coiled spring….there’s no cushion for the stress to sink into.

So this week, I have a few fun facts about your nervous system to share and what ailments could possibly balance out through Chiropractic care and Craniosacral therapy.

  • If you’re experiencing headaches, fatigue, dizziness, allergies, earaches, anxiety, or any memory disturbances, consider that one of the vertebra (the small, movable bones in the spine) in the upper neck may be out of alignment.

  • If you’re craving sweets, experiencing indigestion, diabetic, hypogycemic, or fatigued, you may have one of the middle back vertebra misaligned and putting pressure on the nerve supply going to the pancreas, spleen, or middle back

  • Impingement on the nerves in the lower mid back can contribute to eczema, rashes, stress, irritable bowel syndrome, and high blood pressure due to the kidneys, adrenals, and small intestine not receiving the correct nerve supply.

  • Lower back pain, sexual dysfunction, sciatica, bed wetting, menstrual irregularity can be a result of nerve impingement from the vertebra in the lower back.

If you’re experiencing any of the above-mentioned ‘dis-eases’ keep in mind that this is your body’s way to let you know that it’s experiencing imbalance somewhere. After first checking in with your healthcare provider to make sure there is no serious underlying condition, I have a suggestion for you. Of course, having regular Chiropractic adjustments is one of the best methods to realign the spine, there are some home remedies for you I can offer.

You can apply your own self-care to help stimulate the areas that may be misaligned by doing this:

Using the below chart as a reference, you can take your index and middle fingers and use mild-moderate amount of pressure to tap or  the areas on either side of the bony protuberances along your spine. This is a great way to stimulate those joints and increase energy flow along the nerve pathway. Using the reference areas above, you can start your ‘tapping’ in that general area. There’s no ‘right or wrong’ way to do this. You can even just grab a friend or spouse, take turns lying face down, and start tapping up and down their spines. It’s super relaxing and invigorating at the same time!

This is a really fun self-care routine to practice with a friend or loved one.
