Do you have kids in your life?
I think most of you do. Whether you’re a mom or dad, Gramma or Grampa, Auntie/Uncle or a good friend who loves kids, you’re probably watching them as they move into the new academic year.
Whether it’s the start of a brand new school, moving up into a higher grade level, a new teacher,or all of the above, it’s new. ‘New’ brings challenges, stress, anxiety. While change is great and we want evolution and growth, it’s important to acknowledge that these little people in our lives are going through big changes.
For each of us, new environments, people, smells, and energies can be over-stimulating for your nervous system. For school-age kids, whether they’re 3 or 18, it’s a lot. For the older kids, they’re bombarded with the pressures of making good grades, taking honors classes, making sure their transcripts are robust with extra cirriculars. For the little ones, they may be facing a bully or a teacher who doesn’t see who they are. They may be struggling with learning challenges. They may be introverts who’re constantly overstimulated by all the noise and movement.
Kids don’t have the tools to identify how things are affecting them. This can lead to stress, anxiety, withdrawal, depression, lowered performance at school.
Unfortunately, our society doesn’t give much attention to helping us with tools for coping with how we feel or even identifying how we feel. If kids are complaining, feeling down or feeling anxious, they (and their parents) are often times left feeling frustrated and desperate.
Benefits of Chiropractic adjustments for kids:
- General relaxation and well-being
- Less agitation, anxiety and irritation
- Better able to concentrate and stay focused
- Better sleep quality
- Improvement in sports performance
Can I share a success story I’ve experienced in my office with treating kids?
I loooooove working with kids, and especially school-aged kids. For some reason, they really ‘get it’. They don’t have any preconceived ideas of what Craniosacral work and Chiropractic is. They haven’t been talking to their friends about it. They don’t need Harvard-cited research articles to inspire them to come in. By the grace of their parents, who saw the need to bring their kiddos in, they made it into my door.
I have 2 kids that I’ve been seeing for several months now. And you know what?! They ASK their moms to bring them in, every week! They love coming because they feel so good after we’re done. They come in, lie on my table and go into a very deep sleep.
They wake up smiling. They’re faces have changed. There’s a light in their eyes that wasn’t there before. The moms notice! Their lives at home are calmer, happier and there are less complaints and arguing. Because of that, moms are very happy to continue bringing them in. One of the kids got his grampa and mom to start coming in for sessions, too, because he wanted them to feel as good as he was feeling ( I personally think that his inner knowing wants everyone’s nervous system to feel as calm and balanced as his does).
I count that as hugely successful!
