Celebrating those you love

Today is my husband’s birthday. He’s on the other side of the world in South India with my son and friends, hopefully on the beach and riding scooters through the hills of Goa.

I wanted to take this opportunity to honor him with all of you and to also share with you what I do for many of my friends and family on their birthdays, when I’m not with them.

People love to be appreciated.  It’s easy to see the same person, such as a spouse, child, parent, co-worker day-after-day, taking them for granted.

One of the loveliest practices in my life is taking a moment to acknowledge these unsung heroes in my life with a ‘thank you’, letting someone know how beautiful they are, or how awesome they are.

I’m going to invite you to choose 3 people in your life everyday, take a deep breath and step out of your comfort zone.  This may seem a bit scary for you and out-of-the-blue for the recipient, but I promise you, you’ll build that ‘complimentary’ muscle and learn to enjoy it.  I have definitely had a few looks of surprises over the years, but I don’t care.  I love it.

My husband is 97% of the reason that I am able to do what I do.  These emails, the videos, live Periscope broadcasts, the online class, my website, his care with our children…. is all because of his dedication to me and my dreams.   I so much appreciation his positivity, support, smile, making lunches for the kids in the morning when I’m trying to respond to the Facebook posts before the day gets going, nodding in support of my crazy new schemes (which are about 4 times a week), enthusiasm in all that I do, for spending half of his Saturdays installing new light fixtures around the house, and last but not least…. for loving me absolutely unconditionally in all of my craziness, moods swings, tears and excitement.

Thank you for giving me the space to share with you my ‘unsung hero’ in my life. He helps make all of this possible.

My challenge to you:

For the next 5 days tell or write a short note to 3 people in your life with something that you appreciate about them

Bonus: Find 1 person per day who really bothers you and find something wonderful about them and let them know what that is.  I bet this becomes your greatest joy!
