It’s Heart Health Week (or as most lovers like to call it ‘Valentine’s Day’) and I’d like to send you a big blast of love, health and abundance, wherever you are in the world!
Instead of the traditional gifts of flowers, chocolates and teddy bears, I’m going to gift you with some tips that you can incorporate into your week that will fill your heart with not only joy but health!
We all love this week because it fills our hearts with joy…..to be seen by the people we love and to share that love with others.
I have a little story of love to share with you……because heart health isn’t just about cutting out fat, sugar and alcohol…..I believe that heart health is also about bringing joy into our hearts and supporting others in feeling the joy in theirs, too!
You may remember that I sent out a call for stuffed animals, suitcases and blankets for some of the littles in foster care here in our community? Well, what happened isn’t what I expected, but it’s grown into something bigger than I had envisioned.
I want to send a shout-out to Gail, Tessa, Heidi, Ingrid, Drew, Liv, Anna, Melinda, Charanjeet, Avery and Susan! As you can see, there weren’t a whole lot of folks who participated in this, but the people who did…..we achieved A LOT! And we created a network of help for our local community.
1. Ingrid works for a non-profit that helps connect local families in need with clothes, housing, jobs, and all kinds of other things that you wouldn’t even imagine. They had a storeroom full of suitcases and donated 30 for us. Heidi and Drew loaded up their trucks and cars and delivered.
2. Liv cleaned out her toybox and her and her mom brought me 4 boxes of goodies. She gave me explicit instructions on how the doll house opens up because she wanted to make sure that, whichever kiddo played with it next, that they knew there was a hidden swimming pool.
3. Tessa, with Gail’s encouragement, was able to part with 5 very big stuffies.
…..and even though we’ve crossed over my deadline, I’ve still got people bringing my things to donate.
4. Now I’m connected with Ingrid’s non-profit, where I’m going to take my son’s girlfriend to gift hair do’s and make-up to the very hard-working staff and because Mikayla is new to going out to do things like this, I’m tagging along and offering adjustments to the 30 staff members there!
As I’m watching all of this, it’s growing and creating circles of giving-and-receiving. And all of us, we can each feel the joy that it brings toward us…… I think we all get a little teary-eyed.

…..and then THIS made me so happy that, instead of dropping some of my nicer socks, sweatshirts and mittens at the thrift store, I left it with a man on the street corner. He was so grateful and said that he would distribute items to others in need. While he didn’t quite smile while we were talking, I could feel the warmth coming from his heart.
The circle has started for me, and many others.
The moral to the story? When things seem dark and bleak, when hope seems low, when the forces seem over powering, know that, with all that may seem out-of-control and scary, that you DO still have ways of making someone’s life a little brighter. That you have the power to bring hope. To bring joy. To bring a smile.
To me, those are what makes life worth living. That makes my heart VERY healthy and happy.
If you’re not sure what you can do to fill your heart with joy, I have some ideas for you:….and honestly, even if you don’t currently have a special someone in your life, you can STILL give and receive lots and lots of love !
The list is endless and only limited by your imagination. I had no idea how this was going to turn out, but as I said, it’s been SO fun and I just want to do more and more.
