It’s that time of year friend,

First off, let me say that I hope you’ve had a peaceful holiday season! Secondly, I’m SO happy that you’ve made the choice to trust me with your and your family’s healthcare. I DO NOT take that lightly.

Thirdly, and this is the most important point in this week’s email: people are dropping like flies with sickness, these last several weeks.

I literally had 3 people cancel one afternoon, due to sickness a few weeks ago. Are you seeing the same thing in your orbit?

Being sick is the absolute pits….whether you’re the one in bed or you’re nursing a sick child or spouse, it creates unexpected stress, changes to much-awaited plans, and just feels darn-right crummy to be bed ridden.

Knock on wood, other than a couple run-ins with Covid, I haven’t gotten sick in about 15 years. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my fair share of leaving work with a burning throat and achy joints, in the past. What changed, you ask?

A few things changed:

  1. I stopped eating gluten. Gluten creates an inflammatory cascade in your body that leads to lowered immune function. As you know, you need a strong immune system, especially in the colder seasons and when lots of exposure to germs is afoot.

  2. I decreased the amount of dairy that I consume. This includes milk, milk products like cheese, yogurt, icecream, etc. Dairy creates a lot of mucous, which, again, leads to an over-active immune system, leaving your body with less of an ‘army’ to deal with unwelcome critters.

  3. I started taking this concoction (given to me by my next-door neighbor, who I will forever be grateful for!): At the first sign that I’d be coming down with something I’d do this:

    1. Colloidal Silver, Kick-Ass Immune Booster, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Lomatium, Golden Seal. I would add this to apple juice, plug my nose and gulp it down. I have links here, but if you have a Fullscript account, many of these can be purchased there as well

  4. I get Acupuncture, body work, and Craniosacral Therapy regularly, which helps boost my immune system, keeps the fluids moving ( helps with getting the ‘bad guys’ moving and not stagnant so that they multiply).

  5. I keep moving. Whether it’s walking, yoga, swimming or ballet, I make sure that I keep my oxygen levels up and my lymphatics moving. Of course, if I start feeling low energy or sick, I do NOT and I repeat, I do NOT push myself. I witness this in  my practice all the time. People have the tendency to push through pain and illness, which, in my experience, almost always makes things worse.

  6. I take a daily multivitamin. Here’s a link to my favorite. This helps all of the pathways to support a healthy immune system.

  7. I reduce sugar intake. Alyssa, my amazing assistant was telling me that sugar drops immune response for 8 hours!! I didn’t know that! And she reminded me that we’re all eating crazy amounts of sugar over the holidays. Remember to minimize sweets during this time of increased stress.

This list of ‘to-do’s’ has worked incredibly well for me. This is by no means a complete list of all the things I do for myself, nor will this necessarily all work for you and your family. However, I find it’s a good baseline, if you’re trying to take a good measure to try to prevent getting sick.

On that note, please know that I’m not a typical Chiropractic practice that sees 10 people an hour. I carve out 15-60 minute appointment times for you and your children. I spend time, before you come in, contemplating what I’m going to do in your appointment. My schedule is like a jigsaw puzzle, and it’s very hard to jump into action when I get last-minute cancellations.

It’s why I have a 48 hour cancellation policy: so that we have time to try to fill those slots when someone cancels. If I only have a few hours to try to fill that spot (even if the cancellation is the day before), Alyssa and I have to spring into action.

Please know that, if you cancel, and 2 others have, it’s a very big hit to my day….which is why we have a very strict policy around last-minute cancellations. Believe me, it’s incredibly painful for me to charge no-show and last-minute cancellation fees (I’m literally sitting here having a hot flash just writing about this!).

I do NOT do this lightly. This is purely for me to be able to keep my doors open and to stay in business. I’m writing to you because I really want to extend my apologies but to also have you understand the position I’m in.

I know that emergencies arise…..please also consider, if you’re starting to feel sick, call us and let’s see if we can still have you come in for your appointment! Often times it helps boost your immune system and decreases the severity of symptoms.
