When I first started these blog posts, about 15 years ago, I called them ‘Dr. Arjan’s Quick Health Tips’.
They were intended to be read in about a minute and I’d always have a ‘challenge’ in there, so that you could dive in immediately to add that into your daily healthcare routine.
Over the years, my love of writing (and connecting with you!) along, with all of the healing I was going through, turned these posts into a somewhat longer version of what I’d originally intended.
……and with the ensuing onslaught of information oveload that we’re all experiencing, I know these may be WAY too much for you to sit down and read. Plus, I end up spending hours on each of these….and with my commitment to ease and calm, I want to spend less time at my desk and more time being with the people I love, and working with you to help support your health journey.
My brilliant husband suggested that I go ‘back-to-basics’……and I loved that idea….and what better time than to start with the summer kick-off?
With that in mind, this is the first of my ‘Back-to-Basics-Summer-Series’ emails.
These will be something that you can read in 1-3 minutes with a ‘call-to-action’.
Everything I offer up will be mostly a reminder for you to keep up with what you already know! Because, honestly, if you’ve been following along with me, you’ve probably got a good idea of what you need to do to take care of yourself. Sometimes, we get busy, forget the basics, and start going downhill. We all need a little boost of inspiration, I think, right?
We have a saying in our New Mexico community, that you’ll see in the smallest of villages, tucked up away in the mountains: “El agua es vida”. It means ‘Water is Life”.
Your body is composed of 85% water.
You need water for every single action in your body.
If you’re feeling thirsty, it means you’ve already gone too long without it.
Ideally, you want to drink 75% of your body weight, in water, a day. Meaning, if you weight 100 pounds, you want to drink 75 oz of water a day (my apologies for those of you out of the US….I STILL don’t know how to convert measurements!).
If you’re feeling hungry, tired, confused, irritable, foggy, or headachey, make sure you’re drinking water.
Lots of people tell me that they don’t like water. If you’re one of those people, I suggest adding a lemon, cucumer, orange or lime slice, mint or a pinch of salt (or all of the above). I love nothing more than fresh mint from my garden with a slice of lemon!
Remember that coffee, black tea, alcohol and sodas do NOT count as water! In fact, most of these are depeleting and make the dehydration situation even worse, so you’ll need to double up on your water intake.

My Challenge to YouFill up a gallon of water tonight (ideally in a glass or stainless steel jar…..we want to reduce your exposure to plastics wherever we can!) Challenge yourself to drink the whole gallon by tomorrow evening. Again, you can get creative with this by adding:
